Overview
Cetnaj Maitland’s trade floor brings together lighting, electrical accessories and boxed products in a range of shapes and sizes. The shelving needed to accommodate that variety while presenting stock in an orderly, accessible way within the branch.
Storeplan supplied and installed a black longspan shelving solution combining single-sided and double-sided runs, varied bay dimensions and adjustable steel shelf levels. The fit-out provides a consistent storage system across the trade floor, with room to organise smaller products alongside larger cartons.
The Challenge
An electrical wholesale trade floor needs to work for both product presentation and everyday stock handling. Small packaged accessories, lighting products and bulkier boxed items each place different demands on shelf spacing and depth.
For Cetnaj Maitland, the shelving brief called for a combination of configurations rather than one repeated bay size. The project needed to accommodate:
- Different product dimensions across the lighting and electrical range
- Single-sided and double-sided shelving arrangements
- Multiple shelf levels within the available height
- A consistent black finish throughout the shelving installation
- Adjustable storage that could be reconfigured as stock requirements changed.
The challenge was to bring those requirements together in a practical system that could serve as both stock storage and a customer-facing display.

The Solution
Storeplan’s scope covered the supply, delivery and installation of new black longspan shelving. The specified shelving stood 2400 mm high, with a mix of bay lengths and depths to suit different parts of the layout.
Shelving Configured for the Product Range
Single-sided runs included two-bay arrangements with 1800 mm and 2400 mm bay lengths at 1200 mm depth. Additional three-bay and four-bay runs used 2400 mm bay lengths at 800 mm depth.
Two double-sided runs incorporated a combination of 1200 mm, 1800 mm and 2400 mm bay lengths, with 600 mm deep shelving on each side. This variety allowed the shelving configuration to respond to different stock sizes and positions within the trade floor.
Adjustable Steel Shelf Levels
Half of the bays were specified with five adjustable steel shelf levels and half with six. Adjustable levels allow spacing to be set around the products being stored, giving the branch flexibility when organising taller cartons or smaller packaged stock.
A Consistent Black Finish
The black frames, beams and shelves create a uniform appearance across the installation. In the completed space, the shelving provides a consistent backdrop for colourful product packaging and sits alongside the branch’s lighting displays.
The Outcome
The completed fit-out brings Cetnaj Maitland’s varied product range into a coordinated shelving environment. The project photographs show stocked runs displaying lighting products, boxed fans and electrical accessories, with defined aisles between the shelving.
Key Results:
- Product storage: Dedicated shelf space for products of different sizes
- Flexible shelf spacing: Adjustable levels to accommodate changes in the stock mix
- Access from both sides: Access from both sides of the double-sided runs
- Consistent presentation: A consistent visual finish across the trade floor
- Display and storage: A combination of display and storage within the same shelving system.
Together, these features give the branch a practical foundation for presenting products and managing stock. The shelving supports day-to-day organisation while retaining the flexibility to adjust individual shelf positions over time.
Why This Project Matters
Shelving on an electrical wholesale trade floor plays a visible role in how the branch presents its range. Bay dimensions, shelf spacing and finish all influence how effectively different products can be accommodated in the same space.
Cetnaj Maitland demonstrates how a coordinated longspan shelving fit-out can combine practical stock storage with a consistent retail presentation. By using varied configurations within one shelving system, Storeplan delivered a solution suited to the branch’s mix of lighting and electrical products.
